Salt water spa: softer water and easier maintenance with FreshWater®
Clear, comfortable and easy-to-maintain water is an essential part of the spa experience. With the HotSpring FreshWater® Salt System, much of the water sanitising process is automated, reducing the need for frequent handling and regular additions of sanitising products.
Despite what the term “salt water spa” might suggest, this does not mean filling your spa with seawater. The system works by adding a small amount of salt specifically designed for spa use.
The FreshWater® system then converts some of this salt into the sanitiser needed to help keep the water clean and healthy. The technology is designed to simplify day-to-day water care while maintaining a comfortable bathing experience.
How does the FreshWater® Salt System work?
At the heart of the system is a cartridge equipped with titanium electrodes. Through electrolysis, it converts some of the salt in the water into chlorine, producing small amounts on a regular basis.
The spa therefore maintains the sanitiser it needs without requiring chlorine to be added manually as frequently as with a conventional water care system.
It is important to point out that a spa equipped with the FreshWater® system is not a “chlorine-free” spa. Chlorine remains the sanitising agent; the difference lies in how it is produced and maintained in the water.
Water that feels exceptionally pleasant
The low salt level and consistent production of sanitiser help provide water that feels soft and pleasant on the skin.
When the water is properly balanced, the system also helps limit the formation of chloramines, which are among the substances responsible for the characteristic chlorine smell that can occur when water quality deteriorates.
The aim is simple: to enjoy clear, comfortable water while reducing the effort involved in maintaining it.
Less maintenance and water that lasts longer
One of the main advantages of the FreshWater® Salt System is that it simplifies routine water care.
Once the system has been correctly set up and the water properly balanced, sanitiser is produced automatically and continuously. The water still needs to be monitored, the filters maintained and the settings adjusted according to how the spa is used, but routine maintenance becomes considerably easier.
Under the right conditions and with proper maintenance, the water can last for up to 12 months before it needs to be replaced, compared with the more frequent water changes generally required with conventional water care methods.*
This not only reduces maintenance but also helps limit the amount of water used when draining and refilling the spa.
FreshWater® IQ: making water care even easier
On compatible spas, FreshWater® IQ complements the salt water system by automatically monitoring water quality.
It analyses the water every hour and provides information including pH, chlorine and salt levels. This lets the spa owner know when an adjustment or other action is required, reducing the need for frequent manual testing.
Combining the FreshWater® Salt System with FreshWater® IQ automates a large part of water monitoring while giving the user a clear overview of its condition.
Monitor your spa water from your smartphone
FreshWater® IQ can also be combined with HotSpring Connected Spa technology. Information about your spa water can then be viewed directly in the HotSpring Spas app.
You can check pH, chlorine and salt levels from your smartphone and see when an adjustment is required.
By combining salt water care, automatic water analysis and connected technology, monitoring your spa becomes even simpler.
Which HotSpring spas are compatible?
The FreshWater® Salt System has been specifically developed for compatible HotSpring spas and is integrated into their design.
Depending on the collection and model selected, the FreshWater® Salt System and FreshWater® IQ water monitoring features may be included or available as options.
